Kris Commons left foot will be red raw tonight as I have never seen a one man show where a player has had so many shots at goal. We can sometimes give the opposition a ‘Well done’ and tonight Kilmarnock defended like their lives depended on it, throwing bodies at everything Commons hit tons of shots with Killie players throwing themselves at everything with the goalie doing well also, can we give the goalposts a shout?
Celtic should have been several up at half time, wasteful again in front of goals tonight, Commons was unlucky but we had chances from almost everyone tonight, on 36 minutes an incredible goal by Izzy for 1-0 on the half volley, the bench turned around and seemed to say well done to John Kennedy, must have been a move in his notebook, but what a goal it was, just as we needed it as again we were not converting possession and chances into goals
Via @CelticGoals (Thanks for your hard work mate)
The first half was as well as you will see Celtic play this season we bossed the game, Ambrose did ok at times bit he fell and nearly let the Killie player in to make it 1-1. I did this article here on Ronny’s Team, Defence, Midfield and Attack, this was about defence, I seen it again tonight, all of what I have noticed http://thecelticnetwork.com/2015/01/04/ronny-deilas-celtic-case-for-the-defence-part-1/ we really need to work on this as better teams than Killie will score against us on the counter
The second half was much the same with Celtic oozing class, our one touch passing led to many changes from the by-line, but as usual we get to the by-line and the cut back is poor, we really must have a player running in-front of the keeper, a player on the penalty spot ready to pounce forward and more important a man on the edge of the box or “Edge” as we say in football talk.
Chances came and went and at 1-0 you are thinking “On not again” or “Here we go again” we made it really hard for ourselves as at 1-0 a mistake by Scott Brown allowed a Killie player a toe basher that nearly looped over Gordon thankfully Craig was up to the task to palm it away. See this is what I was talking about in “The case for Defence” article, stupid mistakes in defence
Celtic got 2-0 and a heavy sigh of relief from Ronny and everyone else. A cracking corner from Johansen a header towards goal by Ambrose doing well to get the head on goal, Scepovic was there to do what he is paid to do, get these bouncing balls in the net. I was delighted for the lad as he really does look like he wants it, he is getting more game time and let’s hope he can start scoring, I think it will come for Scepovic he has this streak in him all strikers need he has fire in his belly, he seldom complains when he is free in space in the box and someone shoots instead, he is a patient lad, I like that in him
So 2-0, cracking goal by Izzy but more important 3 points and we still have a game in hand. Now we go over to Gran Canaria to play PSV Eindhoven and Sparta Prague and hopefully get Denayer and Lustig as match fit as two games would allow. Mulgrew and Forrest also. When you look at players missing it really is a lot. We could and should be well ahead in this league table but lack of goals is costing us dearly and tonight could have also. We need Commons on the park, simple as that, he shoots he sets up and much of went on tonight he was on the end of or involved in. We seen Ronny and the fans at the end and I love this, he is connecting with the fans the guy is a fighter, he will come good and Andy Walker can hate this all day, I love to see passionate managers, Ronny is learning to be a manager at a World Class club with expectations through the roof, we are in all competitions 1 point off the top of the league with a game in hand, LETS BE POSITIVE!
Man of the match Kris Commons
3 points and match reports from Gran Canaria coming next as well as part 2 of Ronny’s Celtic “The Midfield Battlers”
