PM David Cameron may block encrypted messaging platforms Snapchat and WhatsApp if the Conservatives win May’s general election, as part of the party’s agenda to bolster surveillance powers following last week’s terror attacks in Paris. During a meeting with Britain’s security chiefs, the Prime Minister pledged to halt the use of communications platforms that can withstand snooping from security services who are in possession of a warrant.

Such software applications focus on popular messaging and social networking apps that deploy encryption techniques to protect users data. WhatsApp, Apple’s iMessage and FaceTime, which encrypt information in this manner, could all be targeted by the Conservatives’ proposed policy. Cameron also pledged to revive the Tories’ much-criticized “snoopers charter” to aid security officials in monitoring online activity.

Why?

Why?

In April 2014, the European Court of Justice ruled against the introduction of the Snooper’s Charter, warning it would culminate in privacy rights violations. The Court outlined a more moderate data retention program that would aid criminal investigations. But in early July it emerged the government was seeking to push through emergency legislation, which would flout the Court’s judgment and re-legislate for the blanket retention of data.

The snooper’s charter subsequently caused a rift in government, however, after it was blocked by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg on the grounds it posed a risk to civil liberties. Home Secretary Theresa May accused the Liberal Democrats of “outrageous irresponsibility” for blocking the legislation at the time. Speaking on Monday, Cameron asked whether a platform of communication that is inaccessible by state authorities is wise.

In a climate of heightened mass surveillance, firms such as WhatsApp have remained determined to continue offering encrypted services. Public awareness about the importance of encryption mushroomed in the aftermath of former NSA computer analyst and whistleblower Edward Snowden’s disclosures on NSA and GCHQ mass snooping. Civil liberties groups warn attempts to limit the use of privacy tools under the auspices of protecting national security are a violation of citizens’ privacy rights. Privacy rights advocates say encrypted platforms are important tools for campaigners and activists.

NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden.

In October 2014, Parker Higgern, an activist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, emphasized the importance of maintaining such privacy tools in an era of mass surveillance. “It’s essential that the use of encryption, anonymization techniques, and other privacy practices is not deemed a suspicious activity,” he said. “Rather, it must be recognized as an essential element for practicing freedom of speech in a digital environment.” Campaigners say encryption can also help victims of criminal activity and those in oppressive regimes to remain safe and secure.

Weather warning: A nuclear weapon convoy

By @ShaunyNews Via http://news.stv.tv/west-central/306306-nuclear-convoy-travelled-through-glasgow-despite-weather-warning/

I did this article earlier today: https://acenewsdesk.wordpress.com/2015/01/12/nuclear-convoy-on-erskine-bridge-in-gales-no-safety-in-awful-weather/ With a video added. I think in the weather this convoy went through to get all the way up to Scotland and through Glasgow was terrible.

Anti-nuclear campaigners and politicians have slammed the Ministry of Defence after it emerged that a convoy carrying nuclear weapons travelled through Glasgow on Sunday despite weather warnings.

The convoy, which Scottish CND argues is unsafe even in fine weather, drove through the centre of Glasgow on the M74 and M8 around 11.30pm before crossing the Erskine Bridge during strong winds.

The vehicles are said to have included four Truck Cargo Heavy Duty Mk3 vehicles, which are often used to transport nuclear bombs.

John Ainslie, the co-ordinator of Scottish CND, followed the convoy in person.

He said: “The Ministry of Defence has shown a callous disregard for public safety by driving nuclear weapons through the centre of Glasgow and over Erskine Bridge while Scotland was being battered by gale force winds. It is time we abandoned Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) and stopped the madness of taking nuclear bombs through Scotland’s largest city.”

The SNP expressed concern on Monday and highlighted additional safety concerns for the public due to the weather warning in place.

As reported by the Scottish CND, the nuclear convoy travelled through the centre of Glasgow on the M74 and M8 between 11.35 and 11.55 pm during strong winds – heightening the already high safety concerns.

SNP Westminster Leader and Defence spokesperson Angus Robertson said: “This is hard to believe. While Scotland was being battered with gale force winds and truly awful weather, a nuclear convoy went through the heart of Scotland’s biggest city and over the Erskine Bridge.

“The SNP has always condemned the practice of these convoys as they pose a major risk but in these conditions it is totally unacceptable and utterly chilling.        “The people of Glasgow and Scotland have made clear our opposition to nuclear weapons being based on the Clyde, but Westminster remains committed wasting up to £100bn on a new generation. Only by voting SNP can Scotland make sure that it is rid of these awful weapons and their dangerous convoys for good.”

By @ShaunyNews Via http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/health/ms-sufferers-in-scotland-to-be-first-in-uk-to-get-new-drug-on-nhs.1421079621 Multiple sclerosis (MS) sufferers in Scotland are to be the first in the UK to get a new drug that can improve their quality of life on the NHS. The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has accepted Pledigry as a treatment for adults with the most common form of MS. Some 85% of MS patients have the relapsing remitting form of the disease, where they have distinct attacks of symptoms which then fade away either partially or completely.

The new treatment was accepted by the SMC after MS groups argued Pledigry can offer patients a better quality of life as it requires them to have fewer injections each week than the other treatments that are available.

Mark O’Donnell, director at the MS Society Scotland, said: “Today’s decision by the SMC is positive news for people living in Scotland with relapsing remitting MS, who will now be the first in the UK to have routine access to this drug through the NHS.

“It supports our fight, through our Treat Me Right campaign, for improved access to MS medicines for people across Scotland. “The SMC’s approval of Plegridy also represents a further step forward in the treatment of MS and improves the overall range of choice for people living with MS. “This drug is designed to stay in the body longer so it requires less frequent injections, which people with MS have told us reduces the discomfort and disruption to their lives. “Given its potential to improve a person’s quality of life we look forward to seeing Plegridy made available to all Scots who could benefit from it.”

The drug was one of six medicines that the SMC approved for use in the NHS in Scotland, including cetuximab, which was approved as a first-line treatment for bowel cancer patients where the disease has spread to other parts of the body. It was approved as part of new processes adopted by the SMC which aim to improve access to medicines for those at the end of life and with rare conditions.

Professor Jonathan Fox, chairman of the SMC, said: “I am pleased that this month SMC has accepted six medicines for a variety of conditions that will benefit patients in Scotland. “Two of these medicines were considered through our PACE process, and patient groups and clinicians gave powerful testimony on the benefits of cetuximab for bowel cancer and aztreonam lysine in cystic fibrosis.”

Prof Fox said the SMC was “disappointed” not to have been able to approve bevacizumab (also known as Avastin) for the treatment of ovarian cancer. He added: “Despite applying as much flexibility as we could, the committee was not satisfied it would be a cost-effective use of NHS resources.”

Often we look back through our species lifetime and we see something said 50 years or so ago and see it come true today. This what I am sharing here is 100% spot on. When I go for a meal most people are glued to their mobile/cell phones. When I drive around town and look into a bus everyone is on their phone. Often when I go to visit family or go to a party many of the people there are on their mobile phones. Also the amount of brain illness’s have increased 500% since the mid 1990’s due to Mobile/Cell phones. My own son suffers from Seizures, his friend died of a brain cancer, I could share many more stories.

lawmakers mull cancer warning for cell phones

http://healthland.time.com/2009/12/21/maine-lawmakers-mull-cancer-warning-for-cell-phones/

While the scientific community continues to study the possible relationship between cell phone radiation and brain tumors—there is no consensus on the subject as of yet—state legislators in Maine are considering a proposal that would require cell phones to carry warnings that they may cause brain cancer. Democrat Andrea Boland is leading the charge, citing studies that have shown a link between cancer and cell phone use, according to the Associated Press.

If passed, Boland’s bill would mandate that cell phone manufacturers put warning labels on mobile phones and packaging, indicating the risk of cancer from exposure to low-grade electromagnetic radiation. The permanent labels on phones would be written in black ink, except for the word “warning,” which would appear in red. Warnings would also include recommendations that people not hold the devices too closely to their bodies or heads.

A recent study from the Danish Cancer Society found that cell phone use did not increase brain tumor rates. But study authors suggested that it may be too early to determine the true impact of regular exposure to low-grade radiation, as brain tumors are slow to develop and cell phones only came into wide use in the 1990s. While research into the cancer risk posed by cell phone use is ongoing, the mobile devices continue to grow in popularity—some 270 million Americans currently own a cell phone, up from 110 million nearly a decade ago.

Often when we hear a story it makes no sense at all, this one is no different. I had a bad few days with my Fibromyalgia flaring up over the weekend I missed all of this live. Only now as I look at what happened and came across this story. I have tried HARD to research about his family. The official line is he was suffering depression and took his own life. Now it can be easy to see a story in a light nobody else does, it makes NO SENSE! Why would the guy running the show via the police commit suicide in the middle of all this. I think we can say this is ‘Suspicious’ to say the least. Links below and video from a friend Daboo7 (Just to add Daboo7 is now here http://undergroundworldnews.com/) Is this guy Another Mossad victim? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mossad

WTF! Police Commissioner of Charlie Hebdo Event Found Dead!
Via Dahboo777 on You Tube

As the dust settles from this week’s terror extravaganza in France, more loose ends are turning up (or being tied up), with this latest bizarre bombshell which is already fueling speculation as to the covert nature of the Charlie Hebdo false flag affair. A police commissioner from Limoges, France, Helric Fredou, aged 45, turned up dead from a gun shot to the head on Thursday amid the Charlie Hebdo affair. A high-ranking official within the French law enforcement command-and-control structure, Fredou was also a former deputy director of the regional police service.

At the time of his death, police claim to have not known the reason for his alleged suicide. This was reflected in their official statements to the media: “It is unknown at this time the reasons forhis actions”. However, a back story appears to have been inserted simultaneously, most likely from the very same police media liaisons, who then told the press that Fredou was ‘depressed and overworked’. For any law enforcement officer in France, it would seem rather odd that anyone would want to miss the biggest single terror event in the century, or history in the making, as it were.

Here is a link to the original report in the French media, which confirms that Commissioner Fredou was indeed working on the Charlie Hebdo case:

The Fredou Commissioner, like all agents SRPJ, worked yesterday on the case of the massacre at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo. In particular, he was investigating the family ofone of the victims. He killed himself before completing its report. A psychologicalcell’ was set upin the police station.”

Even more bizarrely, an almost identical event took place just over one year earlier, November 2013 in Limoges, when the number 3 ranked SRPJ officer had killed himself in similar circumstances, with his weapon in the police hotel. Allegedly, his colleague discovered his body. The prosecution ruled that case was a suicide too, and the police officer had left a suicide note to his family in which he expressed “personal reasons” for his surprising action.

Sputnik News
Police commissioner, who had been investigating the attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine committed suicide with his service gun on Thursday night.
Police commissioner Helric Fredou, who had been investigating the attack on the French weekly satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, committed suicide in his office. The incident occurred in Limoges, the administrative capital of the Limousin region in west-central France, on Thursday night, local media France 3 reports. Helric Fredou, 45, suffered from ‘depression’ and experienced ‘burn out’ [according to the official statement]. Shortly before committing suicide, he met with the family of a victim of the Charlie Hebdo attack and killed himself preparing the report. Fredou began his career in 1997 as a police officer at the regional office of the judicial police of Versailles. Later he returned to Limoges, his hometown. Since 2012 he had been the deputy director of the regional police service.

“We are all shocked. Nobody was ready for such developments”, a representative of the local police union told reporters. On January 7, 2015, two gunmen burst into the editorial office of Charlie Hebdo magazine, known for issuing cartoons, ridiculing Islam. The [suspected] attackers, later identified as brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi, killed 12 people and injured 11, and escaped from the scene. Following two days of nationwide manhunt, the suspects were killed on Friday by French police some 20 miles northeast of Paris.

Good channel this, dedicated to Edinburgh only. STV Edinburgh will broadcast on Freeview channel 23, Sky channel 117 and Virgin channel 159 and will be available to watch live on the STV Player. This looks like a really good channel, they are going over old historical stories, live news and more. Here is the home page: http://edinburgh.stv.tv/ One programme for example is this below

The eagle-eyed among you might have noticed that this is no ordinary Victorian street scene. The elephants are a bit of a giveaway for starters.

In the 19th century there were hundreds of circuses operating in Britain and Sanger’€™s was one of those that travelled from town to town. ‘Lord’ George Sanger was the most successful circus owner of Victorian times. He was known for being a smart dresser, instantly recognisable by his top hat and diamond tie pin.

These images are one of the many “then and now” scenes you can explore on Our Town Stories, which brings Edinburgh’s past to life in a unique way. You can fade between “then” and “now” to get some interesting effects like the one below.

Pauline Cafferkey was diagnosed with Ebola in December after volunteering work in Sierra Leone

By @ShaunyNews Via: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-30783537

Good news here. The special hospital down in London has cured Pauline. Ebola is still 100% a HUGE possible problem for our species, it’s still here, it’s still killing. But terrific news she is ok. Happy stories are good!

UK nurse Pauline Cafferkey is no longer critically ill with Ebola, London’s Royal Free Hospital says. In a statement, the hospital said she was “showing signs of improvement”.

Ms Cafferkey, from Glasgow, was diagnosed with Ebola in December after returning from Sierra Leone. It was announced she was in a critical condition on 4 January. The 39-year-old had volunteered with other UK NHS staff for the charity Save the Children in West Africa.

The full statement from the hospital said: “The Royal Free Hospital is pleased to announce that Pauline Cafferkey is showing signs of improvement and is no longer critically ill.

“She remains in isolation as she receives specialist care for the Ebola virus.” Ms Cafferkey has been treated with experimental drugs and has received blood plasma from another British nurse, Will Pooley, who recovered from an Ebola infection last year.

Checks

She had travelled home to Scotland via Casablanca, Morocco, and Heathrow Airport in London. She was initially screened at Heathrow, where her temperature was normal, despite telling officials that she felt unwell. Her temperature was taken a further six times within 30 minutes, but it was normal each time and she was cleared to fly on to Scotland.

Ms Cafferkey was then placed in an isolation unit at Glasgow’s Gartnavel Hospital after becoming feverish, before being transferred by RAF Hercules plane to London on 30 December, and taken to the Royal Free’s specialist treatment centre. Ebola is transmitted by direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person, such as blood, vomit or faeces.

The virus has killed more than 7,800 people, almost all in West Africa, since it broke out a year ago. The World Health Organization says the number of people infected by the disease in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea has now passed 20,000.

Remember this woman? I can’t remember her name, she just got booted out of Celebrity Big Brother I am told, here in the UK, Vile woman, she says things to anger people to gain a reaction. The irony is I am talking about her. But I think we need to know this Woman is having her 15 minutes of fame. Nothing more, nothing less, flash in the pan, easy to forget evil woman. I still feel for her kids. They must get a hard time at School with a Mother like this!

Not so cool, wonder how she will feel unemployed

UK support for Nicola Sturgeon to be in TV debates

This but on a national scale

By @ShaunyNews Via: http://www.snp.org/media-centre/news/2015/jan/uk-support-nicola-sturgeon-be-tv-debates

About time. SNP are on the biggest parties in the UK. Only right Nicola gets a soap box.

The SNP has today welcomed polling showing support for Nicola Sturgeon being included on the televised leaders debates from the rest of the UK voters.

53 per cent of voters across the UK say Ms Sturgeon should be involved compared to only 30% who say she should not be involved. With the ‘Don’t Knows’ removed 64 % say Scotland’s First Minister should be included.

The polling by YouGov also shows the vast majority of non-SNP voters in Scotland back Ms Sturgeon being included in the debates.

Commenting, SNP Westminster Leader Angus Robertson MP said:

“This polling is very welcome and shows that south of the border and across the nations and regions of the UK people rightly recognise the need to have Nicola Sturgeon included in the televised debates.

“The YouGov poll also shows Labour, Tory, Lib Dem and major party voters in Scotland agree with Ms Sturgeon’s inclusion to the debates – by a margin of nearly 3:1 when ‘Don’t Knows’ are removed – which  speaks volumes about the SNP’s strong position ahead of May’s General Election.

“With a larger membership than the Lib Dems and UKIP combined and more elected MPs than UKIP, the case for including the SNP is unanswerable.

“I have already written to Ofcom to query their undemocratic and illogical decision. Broadcasters – along with our broadcast regulator – have a duty to be impartial in their election coverage. To try and exclude the SNP would be a failure to deliver these democratic duties.

“It would be ludicrous for the SNP to be shut out of these proposed debates – a position backed by voters north and south of the border – and that is something that should be accepted by all involved.”

It really does boil my blood when lack of an Education see’s many believe ALL Muslims are out to kill us all. This JUST ISN’T THE CASE. I have Muslim friends through Football, life, being a DJ, they are cool relaxed people. A minority are the ones who we need to watch out for. Educate yourself before the Muslim Community is hated more. The Main Stream Media agenda is to make us the people, Worldwide ‘fear’ Muslim people. What a load of rubbish and here is some proof!

Four people were killed Friday when the terrorist Amedy Coulibaly took several hostages inside a Kosher market in Paris, but that number may well have been higher were it not for a quick-thinking employee of the market named Lassana Bathily.

As panic ensued, up to 15 customers in the store hurried down to the store basement, when Bathily had an idea. “When they ran down, I opened the door [to the freezer],” he told France’s BFMTV. He quickly shut off the freezer and switched off its light. As he closed the door to shelter the customers inside, he told them, “Stay calm here. I’m going out.” Eventually police raided the market, killing Coulibaly. As the hostages were freed from the freezer, they had a few words of thanks for Bathily. “They congratulated me,” he told BFMTV.

The Ministry of Defence have ignored warnings of wind, rain and snow and driven nuclear weapons across the country, through Glasgow and over the Erskine Bridge. The convoy of four nuclear bomb lorries plus a very large escort left the Atomic Wepons Establishment at Burghfield in Berkshire at 9 am on Sunday 11 January. It was probably transporting new nuclear weapons to Scotland. It was tracked across the country by Nukewatch. The convoy was filmed as it passed Birmingham on the M6 earlier in the day

On the M74 at Hamilton it drove under an overhead sign which said “winter weather take care”. It then went through the centre of Glasgow on the M74 and M8 between 11.35 and 11.55 pm.  There were illuminated “high wind” warning signs on the approaches to Erskine Bridge, but the convoy ignored the safety notices and continued over the bridge, 45 metres above the Clyde.

John Ainslie, Coordinator of Scottish CND, followed the convoy. He said:
