#AceMediaNews – Sept.17: While roughly 50,000 people are expected to stand on the Capitol’s West Lawn to watch Pope Francis’ congressional address, thousands more are expected to rally on the National Mall across the street and they’ll be rocking out to some Earth-friendly tunes.
The “Rally for Moral Action on Climate Justice” has been planned for some time, and signs advertising it can be spotted all around D.C. But this week, organizers announced the performance lineup, featuring some familiar names.
The rally will kick off at 7:30 a.m. and last until 12:30 p.m., and will feature religious leaders as well as some famous musicians, including Moby, Natasha Bedingfield, rapper Sean Paul, and Victoria Justice.
The stars are slated to perform “Love Song to the Earth,” a song that brought together big names such as Paul McCartney and Bon Jovi. Proceeds from the song benefit the United Nations Foundation and “Friends of the Earth,” a group that advocates for environmental policies to address climate change.
Climate change is just one of the controversial topics Pope Francis could discuss during his historic address to Congress next week. And though some lawmakers might disagree with the pontiff, his climate comments will likely receive a warm reception from the audience outside.
