#AceSocialNews – Oct.13: After 10 years of shrugging off daily predatory, abusive, and graphic messages from strangers online, one woman is fighting back – by posting every single message on Instagram.

Last month, 35-year-old LA-based violinist Mia Matsumiya started the Perv Magnet Instagram account, where she says she plans to post the 1,000+ messages she has received over the last decade from ‘stalkers, pervs & crazies’.

‘Being 4’9″, Asian-American, and a musical performer has sort of been a nightmare combination when it comes to harassment – it seems to attract an insane amount of unacceptable, predatory behavior,’ Mia told HuffPost.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve archived over 1000 messages from stalkers, pervs & crazies, & decided to post them all: http://t.co/51YUki4Zgu

As well as a wide range of weird and not-so-wonderful messages to her Facebook and MySpace pages, Mia often receives unsolicited and graphic sexual comments, and has also had rape and death threats. But, she admits, she almost became ‘desensitised’ to them. Almost.

Just received this message on Sunday. Thank god I read this before ever deciding to birth some small, Asian males. Bullet dodged! #pervmagnet

‘It had gotten to the point where someone would send the most scathing, racist, violent thing to me – like rape or death threats – and I would barely have a reaction,’ she says.

Now, however, she’s decided to fight back, by shaming the abusers instead.

‘As the number of messages grew and grew and 10 years went by like this, that’s when I began crawling out of my desensitization and it hit me that no, this is not okay,’ she explains.

It’s been 9 years, anyhow. 😱 #pervmagnet #psycho #stalker

‘It’s absolutely unacceptable to treat anyone this way. People often deny the existence racism or sexism, but I’m pelted with it almost daily and here’s my proof.’

And she’s asking others to share their abusive messages so she can post those too.

She says most of the reaction to her page has been positive. However, others have accused her of attention-seeking.

To them, she says: ‘Make no mistake, I don’t take these messages as compliments and never have.

‘In fact, they make me feel objectified, dehumanized, and degraded. I think the more time you spend reading them, you really begin understanding my position.’
