#AceMediaNews – Feb.13: Music composer Robin Ghosh passes away

Legendary Pakistani actor Shabnam’s husband and music composer Robin Ghosh passed away in Bangladesh on Saturday, Express News reported.

Ghosh contributed greatly to the Pakistani film industry. Of his many achievements, one of the greatest was the songs he composed for the film Aaina- one of the greatest films ever made in the Pakistan film Industry.

In May 2012, Pakistani film-makers, actors and music composers all came together at the Arts Council in Karachi to pay tribute to the legendary actor Shabnam and her husband music composer Robin Ghosh. Held in honour of the two legends who are visiting Pakistan from Bangladesh, the event was organised by the Arts Council of Pakistan and Weekly Nigar.

Addressing the event, Ghosh spoke about all the legends who have come and gone. “Pakistan has a lot of talent and one day this talent will be recongised globally.

The revival of the industry is a must, we can’t let this industry die; it’s the same industry that produced stalwarts like Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hasan and Mehnaz,” said the music composer.

Oh no! RIP Robin Ghosh – what beautiful music you gave to #Pakistan https://t.co/0RpAXIdlEc

After months of testing, it is finally here. Instagram announced today that it is officially launching multi account support.

A feature that many have been waiting for, the photo sharing social media app, now allows users to maintain more than one account on the same device.

This is especially due to the rise of profiles dedicated to businesses, pets and any number of other things.

As more Instagram users juggle business and personal accounts, Instagram has finally launched support for multiple accounts. (Shutterstock)

FEATURED: Google your virtual reality: New VR headset to work without smartphone or computer, leak says – @AceNewsServices

#AceNewsDesk – Feb.13: Google is thought to have developed a new virtual reality headset, not reliant on smartphones, PCs or a game console – unlike existing VR gadgets such as Facebook’s Oculus Rift or its own Google Cardboard viewer.

As speculation mounts about Apple’s secret work on virtual reality headset prototypes, Google is developing its own standalone virtual reality headset, The Wall Street Journal reports.

According to the WSJ’s source, who claims to be familiar with Google’s R&D, the VR headset will feature a screen, high-powered processors, and a set of outward-facing cameras. Movidius chips that use the camera feed to track head motion will be reportedly included as well, alleviating the need for an external camera to track movements.

The existing VR headsets developed by Oculus, Sony, Samsung and Google usually require three things: a PC, a console or a smartphone to run apps or games, a headset that secures a display in front of the user’s eyes (which could be the smartphone’s display) and some kind of input tech – head tracking, controllers, hand tracking, voice, on-device buttons or tracking pads.

Google’s new virtual reality headset may avoid reliance on a smartphone, computer or game console, unlike its competitors.

Google has not yet commented on the WSJ report. Sundar Pichai, Google’s chief executive, told the Financial Times last week that the current Google Cardboard viewer was “just the first step” in its VR efforts.

“Beyond these early efforts, you’ll see a lot more from us and our partners in 2016,” he said.

Industry analysts predict mobile VR gadgets will enter the mainstream quicker than the more sophisticated – but expensive – Oculus Rift or Sony’s PlayStation VR.

Such headsets, initially designed for gamers, cost hundreds of dollars, and beyond that, must be tethered to a PC or games console.

#AceSocialNews – Feb.12: Douglas Rushkoff: ‘I’m thinking it may be good to be off social media altogether’

The media critic on the malfunctioning tech economy, digital detoxes and why Facebook is unhygenic

Douglas Rushkoff emerged as a media commentator in 1994 with his first book, Cyberia. His debut examined “the early psychedelic, rave roots of digital technology. I was trying to infer what a digital society might be like given the beliefs of these people,” he tells me during a phone interview from his Brooklyn home.

He has published 10 books detailing an increasingly fierce critique of digital society. Along the way Rushkoff has coined terms that have slipped into the lexicon such as “digital natives”, “social currency” and “viral media”. He has also made several documentaries and written novels both graphic and regular; consulted for organisations from the UN to the US government and composed music with Genesis P-Orridge. In 2013 MIT named him the sixth most influential thinker in the world, sandwiched between Steven Pinker and Niall Ferguson.

#AceMediaNews – Feb.13: BBC’s new £20m spy thriller ‘the most radical ever’ Le Carré adaptation

The Night Manager, starring Olivia Colman, Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie, is a co-production with company behind Breaking Bad and Mad Men

A new BBC adaptation of a John Le Carré spy thriller – the first by the corporation for nearly 30 years – will be the “most radical ever done”, according to the author’s son.

British television has stepped back up to the plate” with this project, said Simon Cornwell, noting that his father, now 84, “always loved the original treatments of his work”, in which Alec Guinness played taciturn spy George Smiley for the BBC.

#AceMediaNews – Oscars this next year need more ‘ DIVERSITY ‘ to highlight the growing ‘ CULTURES ‘ and not the ‘ GROWING DIVIDE ‘ between people over Colour and Creed – YES OR NO – @AceNewsServices

#AceMediaNews – Feb.13: Rival movie awards to highlight diversity gap days before Oscars

Beasts of No Nation, Chi-Raq, Concussion, Creed, Dope and Straight Outta Compton will compete for best picture at #OscarsSoWhite-inspired ceremony

Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons is to stage a rival awards show just days before the Oscars with the aim of showcasing the diverse Hollywood talent ignored by the world’s most famous film ceremony.

The All Def Movie awards are clearly designed as a reaction to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy which has overshadowed this year’s awards season after the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences failed to include a single person of colour among its acting nominees for the second year running. Beasts of No Nation, Chi-Raq, Concussion, Creed, Dope and Straight Outta Compton will compete for best picture. Guests will arrive on a black carpet, and as well as handing out prizes for best actor, best actress, best director and “best bad muh fucka”, there will be prizes for “best helpful white person” and “best black survivor in a movie”.
