#AceNewsDesk – Apr.14: At least four Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications sold or made available to enterprise customers share security flaws, warns the Carnegie Mellon University CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Computer Emergency Response Center (US-CERT).

From a report: “VPN apps from Cisco, F5 Networks, Palo Alto Networks, and Pulse Secure are impacted, CERT/CC analyst Madison Oliver said in a security alert published earlier today, echoed by the DHS’ US-CERT. All four have been confirmed to store authentication and/or session cookies in an non-encrypted form inside a computer’s memory or log files saved on disk.”

WordPress 5.2 Beta Tester This software is still in development, so we don’t recommend you run it on a production site: Consider setting up a test site to play with the new version first …..

There are two ways to test the latest WordPress 5.2 beta: try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want to select the “bleeding edge nightlies” option), or you can download the beta here (zip).

WordPress 5.2 is slated for release on April 30, and we need your help to get there! Thanks to the testing and feedback from everyone who tried beta 2, nearly 40 tickets have been closed since then. Here are the major changes and bug fixes:

• The new Site Health feature has continued to be refined.

• Plugins no longer update if a site is running an unsupported version of PHP (see #46613).

• It’s now more apparent when a site is running in Recovery Mode (see #46608).

• The distraction free button no longer breaks keyboard navigation in the Classic Editor (see #46640).

• Assistive technologies do a better job of announcing admin bar sub menus (see #37513).

• Subject lines in WordPress emails are now more consistent (see #37940).

• Personal data exports now only show as completed when a user downloads their data (see #44644).

• Plus more improvements to accessibility (see #35497 and #42853).

Minimum PHP Version update

Important reminder: as of WordPress 5.2 beta 2, the minimum PHP version that WordPress will require is 5.6.20. If you’re running an older version of PHP, we highly recommend updating it now, before WordPress 5.2 is officially released.

WordPress Parent Company Automatic Announces Happy Tools, a New Suite of Products for the Future of Wor k according to WP Blog report

#AceNewsDesk – Apr.11: Distributed teams, different geographies, and complex dynamics are redefining the modern workday. Soon, “job perks” like flexible hours and work-from-anywhere will become table-stakes benefits that every company needs to offer to stay competitive.

WordPress’s parent company Automattic has long been ahead of this curve, growing a global software company of more than 850 people across 68 countries with no central office. Along the way, we’ve found that many business products are still locked into old assumptions about how a company runs, so we had to build our own internal tools to work the way we want. Now, we’re making these tools available to like-minded companies who need a better way to work.

Today Automattic is announcing Happy Tools, a suite of products for the future of work. Each product in Happy Tools has been used internally at Automattic to grow our company.

New and Improved iOS Sharing Extensions

Are you using the WordPress for iOS app on your mobile device? Our mobile team is excited to announce a big update to the share extension in the app.

The ability to share content from other apps is a core part of the iOS experience. Last fall, we decided that our share extension was overdue for a refresh, so we rolled up our sleeves and rethought the entire workflow for both iPhones and iPads. The result is a new and improved experience in version 9.6!

Sharing made easier:

Now when you share content, you’ll notice that the share extension allows you to format text, add headings, make lists, and more with a toolbar similar to the one in your app’s existing editor. After drafting your post, you can assign a category and add relevant tags. When you’re satisfied, select the site to publish the post on and tap Publish at the top right. The app will then upload your post and images in the background and notify you when it’s finished.

As a bonus, if you share something from Safari, the extension will provide an attribution link and automatically format any selected text in a blockquote.

A brand-new draft extension

Our customers provide us with great feedback, and many of you have let us know that you often would like to capture an idea for later. Perhaps you want to upload a snapshot from the Photos app, or save a motivational quote from a fellow writer’s website for your next post.

The new draft extension allows you to do just that: now, you can quickly save selected content in a draft post, allowing you to work on it later.

Windows 10 1809 Microsoft to allow removal of USB drives no longer needs to be safely removed as default set ting has been changed to ‘ Quick Removal rather than Better Performance ‘

#AceNewsDesk – Apr.08: Since the arrival of USB drives, we have been warned that they need to be ‘safely removed’ using the correct method in Windows, rather than just being yanked out — but now this changes.

With Windows 10 1809, Microsoft is changing the default setting that’s applied to USB drives and other removable media: The change means that the default policy applied to removable storage devices is Quick Removal rather than Better Performance — so you can now just pull it out without a second thought.

Several Major Browsers to Prevent Disabling of Click-Tracking ‘Hyperlink Auditing’ As it is considered a privacy risk, browsers previously allowed you to disable this feature

#AceNewsDesk – Apr.08: BleepingComputer: A HTML standard called hyperlink auditing that allows sites to track link clicks is enabled by default on Safari, Chrome, Opera, and Microsoft Edge, but will soon have no way to disable it.

As it is considered a privacy risk, browsers previously allowed you to disable this feature: Now they are going in the opposite direction. Hyperlink auditing is an HTML standard that allows the creation of special links that ping back to a specified URL when they are clicked on. These pings are done in the form of a POST request to the specified web page that can then examine the request headers to see what page the link was clicked on.

The article concludes that “Firefox and Brave win the award” for people who want this click-tracking capability disabled — since “only Brave and Firefox currently disable it by default, and do not appear to have any plans on enabling it in the future.”
