Celtic ease past Saint’s to go 6 clear in League (Goals)

Two for Brown, should have got more

Two for Brown, should have got more

A bad start today, first five minutes we could have been 2 or 3 down but we sorted ourselves out and got an early lead on 3 minutes through Scott Brown,  Stokes had the ball wide squared it across the 18 yard line and Brown lashed it home for a good early lead, sadly we couldn’t keep a clean sheet today again the right side of defence with Matthews and Ambrose hurt us, 10 minutes on the  clock and 1-1 when Sean Kelly side footed a cross that should have been cleared

Brown 1-0 Thanks to @CelticGoals for all the links:

m2R8gG

After that point, to be fair it was an easy afternoon. Guidetti had a few chances and more worryingly went off injured in the 2nd half. Forrest was replaced due to a migraine and Biton made way for Henderson. 2-1 Celtic on 15 minutes ball into the box Guidetti helped it on to Forrest who was at the back post and he rattled home to get Celtic back in front.

Good to see him back and scoring he makes a difference

Good to see him back and scoring he makes a difference

2-1 Forrest

We didn’t have to wait long for the 3-1 four minutes in-fact, James Forrest squared the ball from the right wing and it was almost a carbon copy of the 1st goal from Scott Brown. At this point it was fair to say the game was over as a contest.

The 1st half saw us have a few chances with Biton having a few pops at goal and Guidetti missing a few chances but we went in 3-1 at the break

3-1 Brown

The 2nd half was all Celtic and I am still wondering how Scepovic didn’t get a hat-trick with his half an hour on the park, 3 times he was through and just had to get it on target, he hit the post missed a good cross, basically just not his day. All the lad needs is a game like today and a few goals and I am sure the goals will come, the longer he goes passing up all these chances the harder it may be for him

Celtic made it 4-1 on 67 minutes after threatening a few times this time Stokes the scorer. Johansen has been doing this whole game, he closed down a Saint’s defender won the ball squared it to Stokes in the box who slotted home. Scott Brown had a chance for a hat-trick with 15 minutes to go he got a good shot away and injured his foot on the follow through, he seemed ok

Stokes thanks Johansen for his goal and work rate

Stokes thanks Johansen for his goal and work rate

4-1 Stokes

I still don’t know how we  never scored more today, Scepovic like everyone I want to come good but it seems the lad is feeling the pressure when chances are coming easy. We will see where he is in the new year. Guidetti took a sore one on the ankle  or shin and you could see he was frustrated he is very much a confidence player and today wasn’t his day his demeanour said it all

Man of the match: Scott Brown, 2 goals and ran the show in the middle of the park, I am liking the Brown, Johansen, Biton midfield, it allows Johansen to play behind the striker and Biton or Brown will push left to allow Stokes to go into advanced areas

all in 3 points, 6 points clear, when you look at it all on paper, 10/10 Ronny so far but there is still ‘something’ not there yet, I am sure it will come. I am not sure on Commons not playing, he was CRUCIAL for us last season. With Griffiths also not getting on it seem  Ronny is going with his 2 strikers  Guidetti and Scepovic more often than not

Celtic Labour Into the Europa League last 32

Scored 2 should have made it 4-4 with late header

Scored 1 should have made it 4-4 with late header

Zagreb 4-3 Celtic and a game that in reality didn’t matter, a strange game in the sense that apart from a dreadful start to the 2nd half it’s a game we should have won. I know Ronny wanted to rest players and give youth a shot at European football but for me tonight, and I don’t like saying this, Commons made Johansen less effective. The first half we shot ourselves in the foot twice with two goals given away by Adam Matthews and a few saves by Gordon also kept Zagreb at bay.

Zagreb took the lead on 14 minutes when a cross to the back post left Matthews exposed, he jumped in allowing Pjaca to fire Zagreb ahead. 10 minutes later it was 1-1 when a Virgil Van Dijk free kick looped into the air Commons was first to the dropping ball to head the ball past the keeper, 1-1 and Celtic were starting to dominate. 2-1 and a deserved lead on the half hour mark when Commons’ free-kick cannoned off the bar, Biton headed it back into the mix and Scepovic turned and volleyed it home. 2-1 to Celtic and we were on top at this stage, I was thinking 3-1 we were doing well

For all Celtic’s possession on 40 minutes Zagreb made it 2-2 when awful defending by Matthews took a bad touch in the box instead of clearing allowing  Pjaca to fire home a deflected shot off Biton’s leg, 2-2 and half time. At this stage Celtic looked like we could go and win this game

The 2nd half started and before anyone could sit down and finish a half time beer or cup of tea it was Zagreb 4-2 Celtic. Gordon made two good saves but on 50 minutes a cut back to the edge of our box and the unmarked Brozovic to hammer home from the edge of the box, good finish to be fair but where were the runners tracking back? Things got a lot worse a minute later when Pjaca was allowed to run unchallenged and hammer an unstoppable shot from 25 yards past Gordon and into the far side of goal. 4-2 and game over it seemed

Then as Celtic do we came back into the game, McGregor, Commons and Henderson all had shots saved or just wide, with 80 minutes on the clock cracking one touch football played Izaguirre through he cut it back and it looked like a Scepovic goal but an own goal from Pivaric made the last 10 minutes tense, Celtic gave it a lot in the last 10 minutes and to be fair had we played like this throughout we would have won tonight with key players missing. Scepovic had a brilliant header come off the post on 87 minutes, Henderson chipped the ball over the keeper who done well to tip it over.

Celtic huffed and puffed but in the end bad defending and lack of creativity behind Scepovic didn’t help. I still think we needed Johansen behind Scepovic, Commons although hitting the bar for one goal and scoring himself was very poor tonight, I would always rather see Johansen bombing forward. Biton was good tonight and was my man of the match as he didn’t do too much wrong, he has started the last few games and tonight he done the easy things and made it look easy. We missed Brown and we really miss Lustig and Denayer for sure.

We were already through but to lose our last 2 group games we did well to progress to the last 32. We will have Guidetti and maybe new players for that round. If we had been told we would finish 2nd and make it to the last 32 before a ball was kicked in this competition we would have taken it.

Top of the league
Semi Final of the League cup
Still in the Scottish Cup
Last 32 of the Europa League

On paper it looks perfect, but in reality we all know we need to improve in defence, Gordon is saving us time and time again.
Ambrose gives me chest pains, Scepovic showed tonight he can play and like everyone I hope he can take it from here, he looked like a proper striker tonight

With 3 points a must today, we go to 4th in the league 3 points from the top with a game in hand. After all the negative talk and play on the park we could in 2 weeks be top of the league and into the last 32 of the Europa League. Strange as it is the final for this season’s Europa Cup is National Stadium, Warsaw, we couldn’t could we?

Today’s game was over as a contest on 33 minutes when Manuel Pascali pulled back Scepovic who was through on goal. Then Kilmarnock took off Alexei Eremenko, strange one I thought at the time. Then up stepped Super John Guidetti to hammer a super free kick 25 yards out low into the bottom left of goal. 1-0 and from there on in it was Celtic, it was a training match, and I was glad the players went down a gear. We have big games coming up so we take the breaks when they come.

Straight red for Pascali on 33 minutes

Straight red for Pascali on 33 minutes

We had several chances in the 1st half through Scepovic who’s movement was really good today, we just were not finding him, McGregor had a good 1st half getting good crosses in and coming inside for the odd shot. Wakaso was nowhere, I don’t know the story with Wakaso, we won’t see him for a month now probably. The first half ended 1-0 and I was just happy 3 points looked on the cards. Winning ugly is something we are doing just now, playing badly and winning, this is a superb sign. We have shown against Dundee United and Ross Country and a few others what we can do on form so we hope it clicks soon

The second half was all Celtic, we had a ton of chances, Johansen, Guidetti two players in the thick of it. I thought Scott Brown had a good game, he just sat in-front of the back 4 and knocked the ball about. It was 2-0 Celtic and 2 goals in 2 games for Scepovic. Izzy played the ball to Wakaso, a good ball to the back post and Scepovic did what good strikers should do by shooting back across goal, great finish for a player we all want to do well. 2 goals now in 2 games, the lad will be buzzing. Ronny took him off right away to give Griffiths game time, Johansen off for Mulgrew then Wakaso for Tonev, all without Commons, Stokes and Forrest, showing we have a really decent squad just now

Scepovic makes it 2-0 and his 2nd goal in 2 games

Scepovic makes it 2-0 and his 2nd goal in 2 games

My man of the match goes to Scepovic, his movement was something I really kept an eye on, he found himself alone in the Killie box a lot we just couldn’t get the ball to him. In Guidetti we have a player we hope we can sign for a few years and a proven international player in Scepovic, so Ronny has many riches in the attacking department, just more often than not we don’t get the ball to them but it will come, I am sure

Goals thanks to my good man @CelticGoals

Scott Brown – Captain for Club and Country

Being from Edinburgh I had the pleasure of watching Scott Brown play through kids football, to the Hibs first team to Celtic and Scotland Captain. What a journey it has been. I used to live a free kick away from the away end at Easter Road and would often, time allowing take in the odd Hibs game. Scott Brown was a player I noticed very early. Scott trained with Falkirk nearer home and Rangers as kid before joining Hibs as a raw 13 year old. Scott signed his first professional contract in 2002 with Hibs, making his first start as a substitute in a 3–1 win against Aberdeen on May 3rd 2003. Even then you could tell as a raw 17 year old he had the hunger and desire to be the best. His debut against Aberdeen was near the end of season 2002/2003, in Hibs’ remaining two matches of the season and scored in both, a double in a 2–1 win against Livingston and in a 3–2 defeat to Partick Thistle. Hibs then Chief Scout John Park was the one who spotted Scott playing and the rest is history. His mother would regularly take Brown to Hibs training sessions in Edinburgh and Motherwell where he was coached by Davie MacMillan, Gordon Rae, John Park and Keith Wright. Brown became a regular in the Hibernian team in the 2003–04 season, playing 41 times in all competitions and scoring four goals. He was fast catching the eyes of Scouts from all over England then closer to home. His wit in-front of the cameras was noted and we could all see a very young confident player emerging into Scottish football, Scott won Young Player of the Year award. In 2007, the year after winning his dream move

The Famous “Dunno” Video

Scott came through the ranks at Hibs with a few good players at this point. Kevin Thompson his close friend signed for former Scottish side Rangers FC in 2007. Reading FC were showing a real interest in Scott and had rumoured to have tabled a £2+ deal for the kid, Scott famously said afterwards

If I had chosen Reading I would probably be fighting a relegation battle next season and then maybe disappearing into the Championship. In two years’ time people would have been saying, ‘Remember that lad Scott Brown – whatever happened to him?’

Reading were indeed relegated at the end of the 2007–08 season. Despite intense speculation that he would move to Rangers, with Rangers fans taunting Hibs fans that Brown would sign for them, Brown agreed a move to Celtic with real interest from another team who used to play in Glasgow

Who Doesn’t Remember Ex Scottish Side Rangers FC Singing This

Agent Willie McKay commented that Brown was excited about playing for such a successful club and the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League. Brown was transferred for £4.4 million, the largest transfer fee exchanged between two Scottish clubs. His last game for Hibs at the end of season 2007/2008 was a home game against Celtic and he scored a superb goal. He scored many goals for Hibs but had a positional change to holding midfielder at Celtic. Gordon Strachan allows Scott to be a box to box player and I personally think this is his best position. You can’t hold a player like Scott Brown back, he needs the freedom of a football park to do what he does best. Strachan has been a HUGE factor in Scott’s development from a young kid to a grown up and a leader of men

Then came the ‘Broony’ and an awakening into a real Celtic captain

When he started his Celtic career many Celtic fans at the start didn’t see a £4.4 Million pound player but over time we seen a young kid grow into club and country captain. He is vital to Celtic now, when he isn’t there we don’t play as well. In the big games he lifts the players and will tackle with his face if needed. His most famous goal for Celtic to date was, well you seen it above, that goal will go down in Celtic history for all of time

With it being a record fee many Celtic fans wanted immediate return, but we waited and it was worth the wait

With it being a record fee many Celtic fans wanted immediate return, but we waited and it was worth the wait

Brown was a regular in the Scotland national under-21 football team managed by Rainer Bonhof, who recommended Brown to contacts in his native Germany. Brown made his debut for Scotland as a substitute in a friendly against the USA in November 2005, then making his competitive debut for Scotland in March 2007, coming on as a substitute for Gary Teale during a Euro 2008 qualifying match against Georgia. Having performed well in that appearance, his first start for Scotland in the following match, a 2–0 defeat against 2006 World Cup winners Italy. Scott never looked back and was appointed captain by then new Scotland manager Gordon Strachan in February 2013 the same Manager who gave Scott his chance at the big time. The last two games for Scotland, Georgia at home (1-0) and Poland away (2-2) Scott was man of the match in both games. A few Scottish International players who ply their trade in the English game stated this week they think Scott can play top 6 in the English Premiership no problem, let’s hope he remains with Celtic for life, he is peaking at the age of 29 and we will see him get even better. I think he is happy at Celtic. His comment regarding Reading FC when he was younger I think tells us all he won’t leave Celtic to become a player who is unknown and disappears into the English game, Scott wants to be a Celtic legend, no inside knowledge here, you can just tell. The impact he is having for Celtic and Scotland just now is superb, Scott has a good 5 years left in him, let’s hope they are in the green and white hoops

His goal against Poland away (0-1)

Money doesn’t buy you this attitude

Leigh I am just Celtic fan mate, I just tweeted this to you

“@Leighgriff09 Leigh I am Celtic fan, The boy from Hibs you had a go at scored @ Ibrox twice. Forget before, focus now. Riorden never listened”

And I really wish you would listen to people like me who are not giving you a hard time but advice. I remember Derek Riordan joined Celtic, I coached him when he was 12 years old, I told him he could be a Celtic Legend as he was MORE than good enough to improve further. Most of my mates drink in the Four In Hand and The Office, and most rate you, sadly some mock you. I am a Celtic fan Leigh, not an enemy pal. You are living the dream of a million + Celtic Fans, do you realise this mate?

What I see with you Leigh is a really decent guy who lives on what goal he scored yesterday. Leigh that is gone, your goals when at Hibs are in the past, you are on the bench because your manager can see the same thing as many Celtic fans, Hibs fans and I can all see. If I could give you any advice buddy it would be to forget what went before and focus on what you are going to do next, otherwise you will go from club to club, earn less money and nobody will really remember you, kind of like Riordan and look at him when he was 21 years old and had the football world at his feet, and for the record, Derek is a great lad, may I add. Look at all the young Scottish players going to England and the young lad from Dundee United Ryan Gauld going to Sporting Lisbon.

Leigh we almost share friends, we have been in the same pub, you really come across as a really decent guy, but this is the same advice I would have gave to any player at any level in my 15 years at what  you would class a “Crap Level” I am guessing? Leigh, screw the nut and in 15 years from now Celtic fans will remember you. I guess if Hibs are the side for you then you go and become a legend there buddy.

Forget yesterday and plant seeds for tomorrow, or Celtic fans will turn on you quicker and this will speed up your departure and chance at  a club that puts you and shows you at a level you truly will be noticed at. Guidetti came right in and started, to be honest, you at your best, that would be you and we probably would not need Guidetti Leigh. Sadly we did

I am not expecting a reply Leigh, but I do ask you look inside yourself one last time and do what is right for  YOU. If you listen to friends, you will lose pal. I know most of them, really decent guys, but mate, want a career you can look back on and be proud? Get you Mrs and move near Celtic’s training ground then one day when you leave football you can stay and be a coach or look back and say “I was someone” At this rate all you will have is regret buddy, I am sure Ronny told you this, Lenny and Fenlon and other managers also, I know football, managers would take a keen interest in you and want the best from you, why? Your football ability not many have, but Leigh you ain’t showing it mate and I think I speak for most Celtic fans when I say “Would love to see you in the side and playing well and scoring goals”

My opinion may be wanted or not wanted, either way I am in a position to give one, and I have been fair and decent Leigh

You have two choices mate. We all want to see you as this Leigh

Ugly Win In Paisley As Celtic Beat Saints 2-1

Not a game we will remember at the end of the season but 3 points and an ugly 3 points at that. When you are not playing at your full potential but can grind a win out that is a good sign. We all know there is much work still needing done by Ronny, he has two Right backs due to be fit this week in Matthews and Lustig, Forrest we don’t know, Denayer not fit today as well as Commons. With Griffiths not in the final match squad we know we have players coming back

The first half was scrappy and very little came our way in chances, St Mirren hit the bar early on but apart from that they never really threatened much in the 1st half. Celtic had a lot of the ball but St Mirren doubled up at full back and we struggled to get width. We had a long shot from Stokes a cross to the back post Van Dijk couldn’t get to quick enough, the possession in the 1st half was 65% Celtic but it was hard to see it that way as we created very little.

We were all looking at the time and getting ready for our half time pie when a superb move gave Celtic a 1-0 lead right on half time, Scott Brown was played in wide stand side he hammered a cross 2 yards from goal, Guidetti threw himself at the ball, Sky TV said it looked like a Goodwin own goal, at half time they showed it a few times, I paused it and watched a few times, the ball hit Guidetti’s knee on the way past the keeper, it was confirmed as a Guidetti goal after the game, either  way, half time and 1-0 Celtic

Clear as mud at the time, but confirmed Guidetti goal and 1-0

Clear as mud at the time, but confirmed Guidetti goal and 1-0

The second half was  50/50 possession and 5 minutes in St Mirren made it 1-1. A cross in by the Saints and Gordon came and caught it, he then threw the ball to a breaking Wakaso the ball held up on the grass, played wide, cross in and shot brilliant save by Gordon but there was McLean the only player alive to hammer it home, a self inflicted goal but with it being early in the half we had time to make up for it.

20 minutes into the second half Celtic got our 2nd goal, and a bit of praise for Ronny here, he moved Stokes up beside Guidetti and within 5 minutes it worked. Brown played the ball to Stokes 22 yards out near the edge of the box, he took a touch and a disguised pass almost behind him landed right at the feet of Guidetti who stayed calm to hammer home for his 3rd goal in two games.

No argument over this one, brilliant move, pass and finish

No argument over this one, brilliant move, pass and finish

Van Dijk had a free kick inches past the post, Berget came on for Stokes with around 10 minutes to go. Wakaso had a decent game but I look at him running and think he would be better played behind a striker. Nir Bitton for Mubarak Wakaso was the last change for Celtic on 88 minutes to eat up time and it worked, final whistle and we headed back home with 3 points

We all want to see great play and expansive football every game but the sign of a decent side is one  that wins while not playing at peak game. Today was an ugly win, we take the 3 points and look forward to Thursday and Dinamo Zagreb at a 20:05 kick off

The 2 goals thanks to @CelticGoals

With Europa League on Thursday Celtic needed all 3 points and some confidence. Ronny started 2 new players in Tonev and Scepovic, they both had decent games, Tonev I think is a decent player but he needs game time. Scepovic made several superb runs for through balls, once we learn his movement he will score goals you can tell the lad knows where to be. Celtic took the lead on 9 minutes a Commons corner, great ball in a volley from Ambrose came of the chest of Denayer almost on the line and 1-0 to Celtic. 7 minutes later a great run and ball in from Commons seen Scepovic score but the linesman said he was offside, I wasn’t sure on that one. Aberdeen had few chances before Scott Brown made Langfield save.

Denayer gets a chest on an Ambrose volley to make it 1-0

Denayer gets a chest on an Ambrose volley to make it 1-0

It was all Celtic at this stage, Tonev hit the outside of the post with a shot come cross, McGregor then came in from the right and curled a shot just wide. All Celtic at the 25 minute mark. Commons had two half chances soon after a shot and then a cross from Tenov he couldn’t reach. All Celtic and it was ‘When will the 2nd goal come” Aberdeen had a few chances but the half ended in a deserved 1-0 lead for Celtic

The 2nd half was a totally different game, with Brown, Tonev and Scepovic all lacking match fitness, Aberdeen came into the game. Celtic made it 2-0 50 seconds into the second half, a ball squared to Commons 10 yards out, he moved it to his left foot, shot at the left post, was going in but the ball rebounded of an Aberdeen defenders leg for 2-0 and well deserved at this point. Then step up Craig Gordon, he pulled off a few saves and something he does that Forster never did, come for crosses, at one point he came about 15 yards out to gather the ball, he is always shouting at his defence and he did well today and is turning into a brilliant free after selling Forster for £10 Million.

Commons scores Celtic's 2nd and what proved to be the winner

Commons scores Celtic’s 2nd and what proved to be the winner

Aberdeen started to get a hold of the ball and had a few chances, Celtic at this stage stopped pressing as well as we were, but to be expected with players lacking fitness. Commons shot and hit the bar on 55 minutes. Almost right away Aberdeen got a goal, 2-1 came when David Goodwillie headed in for his first Aberdeen goal after an Andrew Considine cross. To be fair Van Dijk should have won the header. Celtic made a few changes John Guidetti for his debut as well as Beram Kayal with Stefan Scepovic and Scott Brown going off at this stage Aberdeen looked more likely to score again, but a lot of praise to the manager today for a tactical change that worked, off  came Tonev for Biton to match up with Aberdeen’s midfield centre 3. Aberdeen had a lot of crosses in the box but Gordon was there for all of them. Aberdeen had a lot of possession in the middle of the 2nd half without actually causing any real damage

John Guidetti did well and you can tell the kid will close down and make things happen. This was a game where we gave 3 new players a game and got Scott Brown back just in time for Europe. Ronny will know his best side by now, no sign of Berget, Griffiths and Stokes proves Ronny will play his team and I was delighted to see that, I may not agree but we need our manager to be strong, Ronny is learning fast at one of the biggest clubs on earth where expectations are brutal for the manager. Celtic had 2 chances before the final whistle, McGregor slotted home but was offside, Johansen won the ball at the edge of the Celtic box and started a run, before we knew it he was in the Aberdeen box about to fire home but the Aberdeen goalie got down well.

Final Score: Celtic 2-1 Aberdeen, 3 points are way more important as we look to find a settled 11

TCN Man of the match – Denayer. He blocked a few shots and made it look so easy. Commons had a good game and got his goal, Johansen was better today, but for me Denayer shaded it

Celtic have won 1 point from 6 from an away game to ICT and today against Dundee, Celtic should and deserved to lose today, make no mistake Celtic were amateurish today, we had no leaders, we didn’t press the ball, we didn’t get the ball wide and when we did it was Ambrose, we don’t have a true striker, the best striker we have scored our goal and it was a heavy deflection at that, this is the worst Celtic team in many years. Ronny I am sorry, I hate to criticise ANY Celtic manager or player but we are just awful

The defence, midfield and attack are just way out of sync, there is none of the easy on the eye football we seen in the last several years, it is flat and we have no ideas when we have the ball. Credit to Dundee for today’s game as they deserved to win this game 4-1 at least in the last 20 minutes Dundee had 5 chances 2 saved and 3 just wide, Celtic I can’t remember any shots apart from Griffiths goal.

We need this lad on the park, end off!

We need this lad on the park, end off!

Peter Lawwell can dress this situation up all day but we the fans can see through his bluff, he has a manager who has got no idea how to set a team up. When a manager comes to a team that was working well he lets it stay that way and introduce change slowly over a season, but no Ronny is forcing a tactical shape to the team we don’t have the players for, it may have worked for Ronny at his last team, but getting beat by ICT and 1-1 away to Dundee is a disgrace. Add to that getting put out of the Champions league, reinstated and put out again, we have NOTHING. The goals Commons got last season were from wide areas. We miss Samaras badly and I don’t care what anyone says, we are missing Scott Brown also. We are downgrading badly. We can only hope Wakaso, Tonev and the incoming Stefan Scepovic can help. For Scepovic to work we MUST get the ball wide more, we are 30 yards out and clueless. The ONLY positive today is, I hope, we see more Griffiths and less Berget. Griffiths will get 20 goals a season and create, people wonder why we get loan players in, thank GOD we never paid for Berget

I have nothing else to write, we are rubbish just now, Dundee and ICT seem better than us. I fear this could be a long  hard season, I hope the 3 players I mention and Brown and Forrest coming back help but with a manager like Ronny who played Berget and dropped Commons in Europe we can’t be sure

Dreadful, no excuses, just very very poor from a very average Celtic side, we can’t get worse so we hope we can pick it up, sadly I think Ronny talks a good game
