Celtic ease past Saint’s to go 6 clear in League (Goals)

Two for Brown, should have got more

Two for Brown, should have got more

A bad start today, first five minutes we could have been 2 or 3 down but we sorted ourselves out and got an early lead on 3 minutes through Scott Brown,  Stokes had the ball wide squared it across the 18 yard line and Brown lashed it home for a good early lead, sadly we couldn’t keep a clean sheet today again the right side of defence with Matthews and Ambrose hurt us, 10 minutes on the  clock and 1-1 when Sean Kelly side footed a cross that should have been cleared

After that point, to be fair it was an easy afternoon. Guidetti had a few chances and more worryingly went off injured in the 2nd half. Forrest was replaced due to a migraine and Biton made way for Henderson. 2-1 Celtic on 15 minutes ball into the box Guidetti helped it on to Forrest who was at the back post and he rattled home to get Celtic back in front.

Good to see him back and scoring he makes a difference

Good to see him back and scoring he makes a difference

2-1 Forrest

We didn’t have to wait long for the 3-1 four minutes in-fact, James Forrest squared the ball from the right wing and it was almost a carbon copy of the 1st goal from Scott Brown. At this point it was fair to say the game was over as a contest.

The 1st half saw us have a few chances with Biton having a few pops at goal and Guidetti missing a few chances but we went in 3-1 at the break

3-1 Brown

The 2nd half was all Celtic and I am still wondering how Scepovic didn’t get a hat-trick with his half an hour on the park, 3 times he was through and just had to get it on target, he hit the post missed a good cross, basically just not his day. All the lad needs is a game like today and a few goals and I am sure the goals will come, the longer he goes passing up all these chances the harder it may be for him

Celtic made it 4-1 on 67 minutes after threatening a few times this time Stokes the scorer. Johansen has been doing this whole game, he closed down a Saint’s defender won the ball squared it to Stokes in the box who slotted home. Scott Brown had a chance for a hat-trick with 15 minutes to go he got a good shot away and injured his foot on the follow through, he seemed ok

Stokes thanks Johansen for his goal and work rate

Stokes thanks Johansen for his goal and work rate

4-1 Stokes

I still don’t know how we  never scored more today, Scepovic like everyone I want to come good but it seems the lad is feeling the pressure when chances are coming easy. We will see where he is in the new year. Guidetti took a sore one on the ankle  or shin and you could see he was frustrated he is very much a confidence player and today wasn’t his day his demeanour said it all

Man of the match: Scott Brown, 2 goals and ran the show in the middle of the park, I am liking the Brown, Johansen, Biton midfield, it allows Johansen to play behind the striker and Biton or Brown will push left to allow Stokes to go into advanced areas

all in 3 points, 6 points clear, when you look at it all on paper, 10/10 Ronny so far but there is still ‘something’ not there yet, I am sure it will come. I am not sure on Commons not playing, he was CRUCIAL for us last season. With Griffiths also not getting on it seem  Ronny is going with his 2 strikers  Guidetti and Scepovic more often than not

3 points is all that matters today. Denayer off injured we hope he is ok for Thursday. We were not superb today, we seem to make it hard for ourselves too often and today was no different.
Dundee had most of the ball in the first 15 minutes pegging Celtic back in the early staged. I thought the relationship, as Ronny would say between defence and midfield and strikers wasn’t there today. Commons and Forrest got some time on the park, so looking back in was an ‘ok’ day.
Celtic then came more into the game, the link up play improved, Commons, Forrest, Guidetti, Van Dijk all passing up on good chances. Just before half time some wonderful wide play by James Forrest winning a free kick 2 yards from the corner flag stand side. Commons whipped in a killer cross, Stokes made a back to front post run and headed home with power, 1-0 Celtic and a goal from the training ground for sure

Denayer went off at half time, he seemed to be ok as he walked off so let’s hope precaution is the reason. Ambrose is a decent player, once every now and then. I don’t think he is a bomb scare, he is just too relaxed, when 50,000 people and everyone watching around the World get all panicky, Efe just seems to be confident. He nearly got caught a few times but Craig Gordon and Van Dijk saved him.
2-0 came 9 minutes into the second half, again Forrest with a superb run got himself to the goal line cut it back to the penalty spot and ‘Super John Guidetti’ doesn’t miss from there. 2-0, game over, let’s all relax with a cup of Bovril and enjoy the rest of the game…

Celtic lately have done this, got ahead and then lost a goal or didn’t get the 2nd goal, thankfully luck has been on our side the last 2 months or so. Games we should have dropped points we never, so with no Brown and a few injures, Lustig also, we take today’s score.
Dundee did manage a goal through Clarkson, a fine signing for Dundee he has turned out to be. Ball into the box, nobody willing to attack it and 2-1. It made the last 20 minutes hard but looking back I think we had more chances to get a 3rd goal. Kayal had the ball in the net on 92 minutes and I will have to see it again, he looked onside to me
We now await Red Bull Strasberg on Thursday, we need to win. I hope we can fill the stadium and get the job done with a game to spare. Top of the league, nearly through in the Europa League with room to spare and in the Semi Final of the league cup, in reality we can’t ask for much more after the start to the season we had

Final score: Celtic 2-1 Dundee

Man of the match: James Forrest

Celtic  were clinical as they were a joy to watch today. With a little pressure on Ronny and his men before kickoff it looked a hard game, in the end a brilliant 6-1 win and good a performance  I have seen from Celtic in a long time. We controlled the game from start to end. New boy’s Berget and Denayer both got goals, Berget getting 2 and he could have had 4. The only sour note today was James Forrest pulling up with a hamstring injury on the lead up to our 6th goal, as the final whistle went he was standing there looking gutted, let’s hope it’s nothing too bad for the kid

Celtic took the lead on 3 minutes, Corner from Commons, the ball fell to Denayer and he hammered it home high past the United keeper. Great start to his Celtic career. Celtic had several chances after this with our passing superb today, this was a master class in passing football from Celtic. If this is what the future holds with Ronny, bring it on!

Superb first game for the young Belgian defender

Superb first game for the young Belgian defender

Celtic  made it 2-0 when a Stokes corner was put into the front post and Commons was there to head home, running away holding the side of his face. 2-0 and so very easy.  3-0 was a gift but you have to be there to win, the United keeper rolled it to his centre half, Johansen made a run from half way took the ball from the United player and hammered home to win the game on 33 minutes. Berget was in and hit the bar just before half time but we went in 3-0 at half time, clinical, superb, and I loved the passing game we played today, we really were superb today.

The 2nd half was more of the same, Kayel came on for Johansen, just to rest the lad, all Celtic and we got our 4th goal on 58 minutes a brilliant cross from a free kick by Commons, he hammered it with curve to the back post and we seen Mulgrew and Stokes argue over it after the game, all in fun, I don’ think the ball moved so maybe Commons goal. But all that mattered was we got the 4th goal early.

Who got the 4th? Mulgrew claimed it

Who got the 4th? Mulgrew claimed it

All Celtic as the 2nd half progressed, if we had a Gary Hooper type player we could have had 10 today (Look out for that one) Berget showed he can play today with 2 goals, and it was him that got the 5th goal on the hour, Corner by Commons to the back post headed back into the six yard box by Ambrose and there was Berget with a diving header. With the game having seconds to go Forrest played a superb ball through to Kayal wide right a cracking cross and Berget was there to hammer high and home. 6-1. United got a consolation on 70 minutes with Gordon unable to get near it. He made a few saves early on proving he is still that £10 Million pound keeper.

Sadly James Forrest pulled up after his pass through to Kayal for our 6th, at the full time whistle he stood there holding his left hamstring looking gutted. He could be out for a while again. Neil McCann made a good point in the Sky Sports studio, Forrest runs kind off hunched up, when sprinters are running they are up and level, maybe he needs to look at his running style, who knows.

We now go to Maribor in Slovenia this Wednesday and I think we are in better shape than we were against Legia. Confidence will make or break a dressing room and two league wins to start the season won’t harm this group at all.

Final Score: Celtic 6-1 Dundee United

Man of the Match: Jason Denayer, he is very like Van Dijk and is only a kid. If there is ANY chance we can keep this kid, we should push the boat out. Brilliant debut.
