No Indictment: Michael Brown and Eric Garner Protests Nationwide

Via Huey P. Newton on You Tube

Tragedy has happened but I see a Nation waking up to the Police State that got 2 Cops away with Murder. I am delighted to see this. It is sad what happened. R.I.P to both the guys murdered by Cops. One who quit with $1 Million in donations and from a TV interview, just wrong, wrong, wrong. In both cases there should have been a court trial. In Ferguson 22 people said the EXACT same story, I am guessing because they are ‘Black’ A word you Americans just can’t stop using, is the reason nobody believes them and why they were not allowed to tell the story to the Grand Jury. In New York a cop chocked a man to death saying “I can’t breath” America, you are waking up to a police state!

NYC DEMONSTRATION FOR ERIC GARNER – IS AMERICA FINALLY WAKING UP?

NFL players and NBA basketball stars have shown their support for protesters angered by police violence against African American suspects. Cleveland Browns cornerback Johnson Bademosi wrote the words “I Can’t Breathe” on the back of a shirt he wore before Sunday’s NFL game against the Indianapolis Colts. Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush also had the slogan written on his warm-up shirt.

The slogan has been used to call attention to the death of Eric Garner, who died after a New York police officer used a chokehold during an arrest in July. A video of the arrest showed Mr Garner saying “I Can’t Breathe” after he was placed in the chokehold.

Last week a grand jury decided that it would not indict the police officer. Bademosi said he wore the slogan to call attention to the case, which he described as “ridiculous”. “It’s not an us-against-them thing. It’s about us standing in solidarity with those of us who know what’s going on,” he said. Bush said he felt “touched” by the public outcry about violence against African Americans in recent weeks. “Honestly, I’ve always been the quiet kid. I’ve always been the one who’s reserved, to kind of sit back and not really get into politics and things like that,” he said.

“But I don’t know why I just felt some kind of… I guess the situation just touched me. “It’s kind of resonated with me. Not because I’ve been through a similar situation or because I’ve seen anybody go through it. “I just really felt terrible about what was going on these past couple of weeks.”

On Saturday, Chicago Bulls basketball player Derrick Rose wore the message on his T-shirt while warming up for an NBA game. There were violent clashes in California on the weekend as demonstrators took to the streets to protest the killings of African American suspects by white police officers.

Protesters in Berkeley threw bricks, rocks and pipes at police, who fired tear gas and smoke canisters to quell the crowds. Peaceful demonstrations have also been held in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas and Seattle, and a number of other cities. The protest in Berkeley took place hours after mourners gathered at the New York funeral of an unarmed black man shot dead by police on 20 November. Akai Gurley, 28, who had a two-year-old daughter, was killed when a police officer opened fire in a dimly-lit staircase at a Brooklyn apartment building. Friends and relatives filed past Mr Gurley’s open casket at the Brown Memorial Baptist Church to pay their respects.

The funeral came after a series of deaths of black suspects, including 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot dead in Ferguson, Missouri, on 9 August. His death followed that of Mr Garner, a father of six who was killed in a chokehold by police in New York in July. In both cases a Grand Jury voted not to indict the white officer involved, sparking widespread anger. Last month, 12-year-old African American Tamir Rice was brandishing a replica gun when he was shot dead in Cleveland, Ohio, by police only seconds after they arrived at the scene.

Protesters In St. Louis Neighborhood Shut Down Major Roads, Call For Justice

yjtdBy @ShaunyGibson – Used to be @ ShaunyNews

ST. LOUIS — A couple hundred protesters marched in the Shaw neighborhood of St. Louis on Sunday night to remember two black men who were shot to death by white police officers in the past few months.

“Black lives matter!” the crowd chanted, as they held hands and blocked traffic at the intersection of Kingshighway Boulevard and Manchester Avenue. Protesters recalled the deaths of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager who was shot by Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9, and Vonderrit Myers, a teenager who was shot eight times by an off-duty St. Louis police officer in the Shaw neighborhood on Oct. 8.

Demonstrators stopped several times during the march, and even blocked a major intersection for four and a half minutes to symbolize the almost four and a half hours Brown’s body lay on the street before it was taken to the morgue. Police arrived not long after the march began, and they blocked off streets for the remainder of the event. No arrests were made.

After the march ended, several members of the community came together for a prayer, reminding one another to stay safe and act peacefully after the release of the grand jury decision regarding Wilson, which is expected soon. Linda Tirado, author of a blog post on poverty that went viral last year and the book “Hand To Mouth,” also came out Sunday night to support the community’s call to end police violence. “If you can come here, you should come here,” Tirado told The Huffington Post about the protests. “That is what we do as Americans, when we see someone’s civil liberties be violated, we stand up and say we can’t do that, and that’s what’s happening.”

Cockburn Street – pronounced Co-Burn Street

By Shaun Gibson : @ShaunyNews

Did live coverage of this early Sunday, at first I heard it was a man with a Gun: https://acenewsdesk.wordpress.com/2014/10/25/breaking-major-police-incident-in-edinburgh-city-centre/

Parts of Edinburgh city centre were cordoned off on Saturday night as police hunted for a thief reported to be on a roof.

Emergency services were called to the Royal Mile at Cockburn Street around 10pm.

More than 50 officers in riot gear were seen searching buildings around the area, while a police helicopter hovered overhead.

Early reports of a shooting were dismissed by Police Scotland, who said there was no risk to the public.

A spokesman for the force later said: “Police in Edinburgh were in attendance in the Royal Mile on Saturday evening to trace a man in connection with an earlier incident involving a stolen motorbike.

“The man was reported to be on the roof of a building in the Cockburn Street area and a cordon was put in place.

“There was no risk to the public and no armed police were involved. Enquiries are ongoing to trace the man.”

One person in Custody after Edinburgh incident

A person has been detained after an incident in central Edinburgh which led to part of the city being cordoned off, police have said.

Officers were called to reports of a man inside a building on Cockburn Street at about 22:00 BST on Saturday and began searching the property.

A man was later reported to have been seen on the roof of the building.

Police Scotland said its helicopter was sent out to assist and streets cordoned off as a precaution.

The cordon was being removed, it said later.

Witnesses on social media reported seeing the police helicopter circling the Scottish capital’s Old Town.

Some earlier postings on Twitter suggested a man was armed with a gun.

But Police Scotland says no firearms were involved in the incident and there was no risk to the public.

The Scotsman newspaper said that its former office at 30 Cockburn Street had been searched by officers.

The paper said 50 police officers carrying riot shields were at the scene, as well as fire engines.

While the incident was taking place a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police and the fire service are in attendance to trace a man reported to be on a roof in Edinburgh city centre.”

Breaking news

EDINBURGH city centre has been brought to a halt following a major police incident.

Around 50 police officers carrying riot shields and wearing balaclavas were deployed on Cockburn Street, in the city’s historic Old Town, at around 10pm on Saturday evening.

Crowds gathered as police helicopters circled the area for more than an hour.

Sniffer dogs, fire engines and police vehicles were on the scene as the drama unfolded, with officers cordoning off Cockburn Street with police tape.

Police searched floor by floor the old Scotsman building at 30 Cockburn Street.

Police moved onlookers back last night saying there was an “ongoing dangerous incident”.

One witness said: “The helicopter has been circling for more than an hour shining its search light down over the tops of buildings.

“The police have been warning us all to stay back.”

Some onlookers took to Twitter to describe the scene. Rudra Kapila wrote: “Area is mini war zone”.

Abbie Jessie added: “All the streets have been blocked of by police and helicopters.”

Police Scotland refused to comment on speculation there had been a shooting, but did confirm there was an “ongoing incident”.

Act of terror? Suspect Zale Thompson can be seen swinging a hatchet towards police officers at 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Jamaica, Queens

By Shaun Gibson : @ShaunyNews

Police say they were investigating whether Thompson’s attack on the cops was linked to Islamic terrorism. ISIS has urged fighters to launch lone wolf attacks in the United States. Thompson’s Facebook page features a photograph of a man dressed in Middle Eastern garb and a cover photo displaying Arabic writing. Two attacks in Canada this week by radicalized converts to Islam have killed two Canadian soldiers.  In one, a man ran down two soldiers in his car in Quebec, killing one, before being shot dead. On Wednesday a convicted felon ambushed a soldier outside Canadian Parliament, fatally wounding him, before running the Parliament building and opening fire.  DNA info reports that on Thursday afternoon a freelance photographer approached the group of rookie cops and asked to take their photograph. As the officers were posing for the camera, Thompson charged towards them swinging an 18.5 inch hatchet without uttering a single word. One 24-year-old officer was slashed in the arm

A hatchet-wielding attacker charged a group of New York City police officers posing for a photograph on Thursday, wounded two, one critically, before the assailant was shot dead, police said. The officers were on foot patrol when they were asked by a freelance photographer to pose for a picture on a Queens street at about 2 p.m., a New York Police Department spokesman said. Suddenly a man carrying a hatchet charged the officers, swinging it and striking one officer in the right arm and then swinging it again and striking a second officer in the head, the spokesman said. The remaining two officers fired their weapons at the man, hitting him. The suspect, whose identity was not yet confirmed but who was said to be approximately 32 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old female bystander was struck by a stray bullet. She underwent surgery and was recovering at the hospital, the spokesman said. Both officers were being treated at Jamaica Hospital, with the 25-year-old officer who was hit in the head undergoing surgery and in critical condition. The other officer, who is 24 years old, was in stable condition, the spokesman said. “At this point, no known motive for this attack has been established,” Police Commissioner William Bratton told a press conference. Another 25-year-old officer was slashed in the back of head and taken to Jamaica Hospital where he is being treated in critical condition, reports CBS.
The two remaining police shot at Thompson who dropped his hatchet then died at the scene.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said he’s not ruling out terrorism especially in the wake of recent terror attacks in Canada, reports CNN. ‘There is nothing we know as of this time that would indicate that were the case. I think certainly the heightened concern is relative to that type of assault based on what just happened in Canada,’ said Bratton. CNN reports that Thompson has a criminal record in California and that he was discharged from the U.S. Navy for misconduct. Details of his criminal record and his misconduct are not known at this time. His Facebook page says that Thompson graduated from Columbia Teacher’s College and that he resides in Queens. CNN reports that New York police were alerted to be on the lookout for random attacks following Thursday’s incident.  DNA Info spoke with witnesses on the scene.

Police declined to comment on media reports that the attack was tied to terrorism and that an internal memo urged officers to maintain a heightened level of awareness in the wake of recent attacks in Canada. All four officers involved in the New York City incident graduated on July 8 from the city Police Academy. People who witnessed this came forward,  ‘We heard pop, pop, pop, pop,’ said Rafael, 44, who works at Overseas Travel nearby where the incident occurred. ‘She was screaming,”‘Help me.” She couldn’t get up,’ said Ericka Babb, a medical assistant at Priority Medical Centre in Queens. ‘We were way too scared,’ said Rafael.

Officers say they shot the hatchet-yielding suspect but it’s not clear how many rounds were fired. ‘It was a completely unprovoked attack,’ said NYPD Chief Kim Royster, a department spokeswoman. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said during a news conference that all of the police involved are recent graduates of this summer’s Police Academy class. ‘Three rookie cops, absolutely modest about what happened today and what they did,’ de Blasio said. During the conference Bill De Blasio lauded the officers’ training and their fast response to the unprovoked attack.

Phone Video Emerges That shows St. Louis Cops Version Shooting IS A LIE!

HE HAD NO KNIFE!

HE HAD NO KNIFE!

St. Louis- On Tuesday, while tensions continued to simmer in Ferguson, just a few miles away 25-year-old Kajieme Powell was gunned down by St. Louis cops. Officers claimed that they were in fear of their lives as Powell charged at them with a knife. They claim he had the knife in an “overhand grip” and came within three feet of the officers, at which time they opened fire, killing Powell. The incident stemmed from a call by a Six Star Market owner after Powell allegedly stole two energy drinks, according to KSDK. Reports from witnesses claim that Powell was acting erratically, pacing back and forth on the street and talking to himself, while carrying a knife. St. Louis Metro Police Chief Sam Dotson responding to a question of whether the shooting was justified said his officers “have a right to go home at night” going on to say that all officers have a right to defend themselves. He went on to defend his officers actions saying that they used deadly force due to the suspect with a knife coming within three of four feet of the officers, which would be considered within lethal range.

New cell phone video has emerged that calls into question officer’s version of events, and Dotson’s defense of his officers, leading up to the shooting. In the video two cops arrive together, exit the vehicle, and demand Powell drop the knife. Powell begins yelling “shoot me, shoot me, shoot me now,” as walks onto a ledge then steps off as if to approach. Powell, who had his hands at his sides, never came within more than 10-15 feet of the officers before they opened fire killing him.

“They could have tazed that man.”

Surely the officers could have utilized non-lethal force in this situation.

It seems that these officers, and Police Chief Dotson, think they are the only ones that “have a right to go home at night.”

The police turned a call about two stolen energy drinks into a murder, of course they will say it was justified, so they could go home at night… sadly, Kajieme Powell will never be able to go home again.

It’s this us or them mentality that has created the conditions we see in Ferguson and around the country, as the warrior cop has no sense how to diffuse a situation, but rather only how to use force and brutality on those they are sworn to protect and serve.

THE OFFICIAL STORY!

ST. LOUIS – A 25-year-old man armed with a knife is dead after two police officers shot him in north St. Louis.

Chief Sam Dotson with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says at 12:20 p.m. officers received a call for a disturbance in the area of Riverview Boulevard and McLaran Avenue.

Police said Kajieme Powell entered a nearby convenience store and walked out carrying two energy drinks.

Police identified Powell as the suspect Tuesday night.

The store owner asked him to stop, but let him walk out the door. Dotson says a few minutes later the Powell came back inside the store, took a package of pastries, and started to walk back outside.

NYPD Cop that killed Eric Garner charged with homicide

Video footage shows Mr Garner struggling to breathe

I blogged this NYPD cop killing a man with a choke hold, well the Cop is being charged with homicide.

https://acenewsdesk.wordpress.com/2014/08/02/nypd-cop-that-killed-eric-garner-charged-with-homicide/

The New York City medical examiner’s office Friday confirmed what demonstrators had been saying for weeks: A police officer’s choke hold on a man being arrested for selling loose cigarettes killed him. Eric Garner, 43, died July 17 after being confronted by police on Staten Island for allegedly selling cigarettes illegally. During the encounter, Garner raised both hands in the air and told the officers not to touch him. Seconds later, a video shows an officer behind him grab the 350-pound man in a choke hold and pull him to the sidewalk, rolling him onto his stomach. “I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” Garner said repeatedly, his cries muffled into the pavement.

The cause of Garner’s death was “compression of neck (choke hold), compression of chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police,” said Julie Bolcer, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner’s office. The death was ruled a homicide. Acute and chronic bronchial asthma, obesity and hypertensive cardiovascular disease were listed as contributing conditions in a controversial death that sparked anti-police demonstrations and calls for a federal investigation. Douglas Auer, a spokesman for the Richmond County district attorney’s office, said the investigation into the death was continuing. “We await the issuance of the official death certificate and the autopsy report,” he said in a statement.

Eric Garner suffered a cardiac arrest

Eric Garner suffered a cardiac arrest

The U.S. Justice Department has said it is monitoring the investigation. If local prosecutors decline to file criminal charges, the federal justice department could conduct an investigation into whether the victim’s civil rights were violated. “The District Attorney will be examining the case to determine if the use of the choke hold was necessary to subdue and arrest Garner, or was an excessive use of force resulting in death,” CNN legal analyst Paul Callan said. A former deputy chief of homicide for the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, Callan said a choke hold does not violate state law but is prohibited by NYPD guidelines on excessive force. There was no immediate reaction from Garner’s family but they were expected to speak at a Harlem rally with the the Rev. Al Sharpton on Saturday. Mayor Bill de Blasio Friday expressed his “deepest sympathies” to Garner’s family.

“My administration will continue to work with all involved authorities, including the Richmond County District Attorney, to ensure a fair and justified outcome,” he said in a statement. “We all have a responsibility to work together to heal the wounds from decades of mistrust and create a culture where the police department and the communities they protect respect each other … I’ve said that we would make change, and we will. As mayor, I remain absolutely committed to ensuring that the proper reforms are enacted to ensure that this won’t happen again.

The video of the incident showed the Staten Island man lying on the ground motionless after he was taken down by a group of officers. An asthmatic, Garner was later declared dead at a nearby hospital. Police said he suffered a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital. “This is a terrible tragedy that occurred. … A terrible tragedy that no family should have to experience,” de Blasio said after the death, calling the video of the incident “very troubling.” Garner, a grandfather with six children, had a lengthy criminal history, including more than 30 arrests, and had been previously arrested for selling untaxed cigarettes in May, according to police. But demonstrators in New York called the police response during his arrest excessive and criminal.

On July 19, Garner’s friends and family rallied with Sharpton in Harlem, demanding a full investigation into Garner’s death. Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who is seen on the video choking Garner, was put on modified assignment and stripped of his badge and gun amid the investigation, the New York Police Department said. A second police officer was placed on desk duty. The choke hold tactic is prohibited by the NYPD.

Two EMTs and two paramedics also were suspended without pay, according to Erika Hellstrom, vice president of development at Richmond University Medical Center. In a statement, Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch called Pantaleo’s reassignment “a completely unwarranted, kneejerk reaction for political reasons.” He said the move “effectively pre-judges this case and denies the officer the very benefit of a doubt that has long been part of the social contract that allows police officers to face the risks of this difficult and complex job.”

On Friday, the police union expressed “sympathies and prayers” for the Garner family and said it stood “firmly in support of all police officers” put in difficult circumstances. “Police officers don’t start their days expecting or wanting something like this to occur in the performance of their duties,” PBA president Patrick Lynch said in a statement. “The ME’s report indicates that Mr. Garner was a man with serious health problems so there will have to be a complete and thorough analysis of all the factors that played a part in this tragedy. We believe, however, that if he had not resisted the lawful order of the police officers placing him under arrest, this tragedy would not have occurred.”

Police Commissioner William Bratton ordered an extensive review of the NYPD’s training procedures after Garner’s death. After a two-hour meeting with NYPD Training Commissioner Ben Tucker last week, Bratton ordered a “top to bottom review of all the training that this department provides to its personnel, specifically focusing on force, how do we train our officers for a takedown, how do we train them to use the various levels of force that they’re authorized to use.” “I would anticipate that coming out of this effort that there will be a retraining of every member of the New York City Police Department in the weeks, months and potential years ahead,” Bratton said. What led to choke hold death
