Celtic Ease Past 10 Man Killie 2-0

Guidetti make it 1-0 with a cracking free kick

Guidetti make it 1-0 with a cracking free kick

With 3 points a must today, we go to 4th in the league 3 points from the top with a game in hand. After all the negative talk and play on the park we could in 2 weeks be top of the league and into the last 32 of the Europa League. Strange as it is the final for this season’s Europa Cup is National Stadium, Warsaw, we couldn’t could we?

Today’s game was over as a contest on 33 minutes when Manuel Pascali pulled back Scepovic who was through on goal. Then Kilmarnock took off Alexei Eremenko, strange one I thought at the time. Then up stepped Super John Guidetti to hammer a super free kick 25 yards out low into the bottom left of goal. 1-0 and from there on in it was Celtic, it was a training match, and I was glad the players went down a gear. We have big games coming up so we take the breaks when they come.

Straight red for Pascali on 33 minutes

We had several chances in the 1st half through Scepovic who’s movement was really good today, we just were not finding him, McGregor had a good 1st half getting good crosses in and coming inside for the odd shot. Wakaso was nowhere, I don’t know the story with Wakaso, we won’t see him for a month now probably. The first half ended 1-0 and I was just happy 3 points looked on the cards. Winning ugly is something we are doing just now, playing badly and winning, this is a superb sign. We have shown against Dundee United and Ross Country and a few others what we can do on form so we hope it clicks soon

The second half was all Celtic, we had a ton of chances, Johansen, Guidetti two players in the thick of it. I thought Scott Brown had a good game, he just sat in-front of the back 4 and knocked the ball about. It was 2-0 Celtic and 2 goals in 2 games for Scepovic. Izzy played the ball to Wakaso, a good ball to the back post and Scepovic did what good strikers should do by shooting back across goal, great finish for a player we all want to do well. 2 goals now in 2 games, the lad will be buzzing. Ronny took him off right away to give Griffiths game time, Johansen off for Mulgrew then Wakaso for Tonev, all without Commons, Stokes and Forrest, showing we have a really decent squad just now

Scepovic makes it 2-0 and his 2nd goal in 2 games

Scepovic makes it 2-0 and his 2nd goal in 2 games

My man of the match goes to Scepovic, his movement was something I really kept an eye on, he found himself alone in the Killie box a lot we just couldn’t get the ball to him. In Guidetti we have a player we hope we can sign for a few years and a proven international player in Scepovic, so Ronny has many riches in the attacking department, just more often than not we don’t get the ball to them but it will come, I am sure

Man of the Match Craig Gordon kept Salzburg at bay with a few World class saves. In a game where both sides had a lot of the ball in stages we have to be happy with a 2-2 in our opening game. On 13 minutes Brown won the ball 25 yards our gave it to Commons on the edge of the box, Commons let the ball roll past him and there was Wakaso to power a low bending shot for a good start and an amazing goal, 1-0 up and we hoped for no repeat of previous games in Europe. We should and could have added to that goal.

Wakaso celebrates his wonder goal

Wakaso celebrates his wonder goal

Celtic couldn’t hold on and on 35 minutes Ambrose played a Salzburg player on then his outstretched leg pushed the ball over Gordon, Ambrose was our weak link all night and I hope either Lustig or Matthews are back soon, Ambrose looks too relaxed and this was shown with him playing on the player to make it 1-1. We were lucky to go in at 1-1 but we take it as Salzburg were all over us the last 15 minutes of the 1st half.

The 2nd half seen Salzburg have most of the ball. 15 minutes into the 2nd half and 2-1 Celtic a McGregor cross was headed out and from 25 yards there was Scott Brown to hammer home with the aid of a deflection. Celtic had a few chances on the break but just couldn’t release the ball quick enough. I said in live commentary I seen a Salzburg goal coming but when it did you had to say well done. Izzy gave away a stupid free kick, like he did 5 minutes before this time on 34 minutes and the free kick I don’t think anyone would have saved, it was a cracking goal if we are to be fair, 2-2 and it could have went either way but we settle with 2-2

Brown made it 2-1 to Celtic

Brown made it 2-1 to Celtic

Again Scepovic got no service, when he did he had to come deep for it, we never got the ball wide enough, but we take the 2-2 and look forward to the next game against Dinamo Zagreb on the 2nd October, Zagreb beat FC Astra 4-1 tonight

We take the point and look to get better as we go

Man of the match Craig Gordon, outstanding tonight

St Johnstone 0-3 Celtic as luck gets us off to a flyer in the league (GOALS)

Article By Shaun Gibson

Not brilliant tonight but with a new manager under pressure, bringing in new players what we want to see is this group grow together. We seen that a little tonight. You could see at full time the fans were behind the side, the players were happy and Ronny was happy. Let’s not pretend, we still have a lot of work to do but this was a good start. Saints are no mugs, they made it hard to play wide and in the end our wide play led to all our goals

With Mulgrew suspended Lustig was captain and with Griffiths ‘Ill’ we were a few men down. I thought the starting 11 was ok, maybe Kayal for Biton, but we won 3-0 so the manager was right tonight, he did his job, we came for 3 points and as a group we become closer, for now, and we hope it stays that way as we progress with Ronny

Celtic huffed and puffed in the first half but not a great deal to write about, Craig Gordon I am delighted for a couple of good saves and he actually comes for crosses, something Fraser Forster was not brilliant at doing

Celtic took the lead on 54 minutes, Commons tackled the last man and his tackle fell right at the feet of Stokes, he was well wide but hammered home a great strike, rounding the keeper doing superb

Celtic huffed and puffed and we were a lot better in the seconds half with wide play. We got our 2nd goal on 75 minutes,  Derk Boerrigter was through and about to shoot he was brought down by MacKay up stepped Biton to score his first Celtic goal with a good penalty with MacKay being sent off

The game was won on and 3 points made sure of on 83 minutes, Johansen got the ball wide right, passed it into the box, Biton could have shot, he gave it to McGregor whose shot was right down the keepers throat, but as you see below, the keeper let it go over the line, Matthews and McGregor and Berget all involved with McGregor doing what good midfield players should do, run with the ball, good goal

We really need to improve should we still be in the Champions league but as I said this will do this group of players no harm with the new management  team. It takes time for new people to get in and make things happen. Ronny has brought in a few of his own players and that will help him. I questioned taking off Commons but to be fair, Ronny was spot on, if we are going to give the new manager a hard time for losing we have to give him credit when we win. This is a work in progress, so as fans we MUST be patient. Many were annoyed at half time, we need to learn to give things time. But it’s understandable. 3 points is what we came for, so job done!
